Piezo Sensors (PZT) vs Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) Sensors in Structural Health Monitoring

An interesting new research paper on this subject was published recently by the Institute for Construction Science and the Department of Structural Mechanics, Technical University of Madrid, Spain.

They compared the two methods on Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) composites for repairing and strengthening structures in service. The bottom line was that PZT sensors with impedance-based direct analysis provide more detailed information on the location of a structural problem.
