These very high load linear actuators are driven by a high-performance piezo stack and can handle loads to 2750 lbs. (1250kg) while providing nanometer precision motion. The linear actuators can be used in both dynamic and static mode. They provide sub-millisecond response and sub-nanometer resolution. The high load capacity and internal spring preload makes them ideal for machining applications and vibration cancellation.

Standard high load actuators can be run in open loop mode, providing very high resolution. When the highest repeatability, absolute accuracy, and precision are required, the P-177.10 closed-loop control option with ultra-high resolution strain gauges for position feedback operation with high performance PI servo controller electronics is recommended.

P-246 linear actuator models are equipped with special ceramic layers, providing more displacement in the same package compared to the than P-242 piezo stack models. On the other hand, their maximum operating voltage is limited to -1000 V with voltages in excess of -750 V recommended only for short periods of time.

The P-246.xx, P-242.30, and P-242.40 actuators are protected by a stainless steel case with internal spring preload, to keep pulling forces from the Piezo stack. The linear actuators P-242.10 and P-242.20 are encased with an aluminum case and equipped with stainless steel end pieces and spring bolts providing the preload.

Application examples:
Out-of-round machining, laser optics turning, precision machining, adaptive mechanics, vibration cancellation, smart structures, static and dynamic positioning of heavy parts, force generation for bending or compressing of material, etc.
